Joanna Stinson, Owner/Director
Joanna was born and raised in
Silver City! Her love for dance began in elementary school when she began taking dance classes and expanded into cheerleading as part of a state championship squad in high school.  Joanna received a Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts & Science in Education from New Mexico State University. She currently holds both New Mexico and Arizona Teaching Certificates in Dance Education, Business/Marketing and English.  Joanna also has instructed for the Maricopa Community Colleges in Arizona.  She was a dancer and subsequently the head coach/director of the NMSU Sundancers Collegiate Dance Team.  She auditioned and was chosen as an instructor/director for Dancz America, where she traveled to over 25 states teaching various styles of dance to middle and high school dancers.  She has been coaching high school spiritlines and dance teams for the past 15 years, including Silver High School and many other teams in NM and AZ.  Many teams were state and nationally ranked!   She resides in Glendale, AZ where she is a full-time high school dance teacher and teaches a curriculum of ballet, jazz, tap and hip hop.  Joanna stays current with the latest trends by taking dance classes and workshops in Phoenix, AZ.  Her hobbies are yoga and reading.  She enjoys photography through her own company JC Photography which specializes in dance photography. She commutes back to Silver City on a regular bases and enjoys bringing new choreography, styles and fresh ideas back to StarDancers!  Also in March of this year, she choreographed "Little Shop of Horrors " for the Theater Group of New Mexico!  
 


    

Erin Oldham, Advanced Ballet and Jazz Instructor

Erin Oldham comes to StarDancers with a lifetime of dance experience! She began at a young age in Silver City with Tap, Jazz, Ballet and Pointe.  During that time, she also attended numerous workshops and competitions with Dance Educators of America, Dance Olympus and Joe Tremaine in Phoenix, Albuquerque and Las Vegas.  Erin received the prestigious honor by being selected to travel as an assistant instructor with the professional educators of Dance Olympus.  Erin began her professional career overseas in Inatori, Japan where she danced at the Inatoriso Hotel, for Las Vegas ShoBiz.  She extended her stay in Japan by dancing with a Minnie Madden Production with Magician Tim Noonan in Maebashi, Japan.  Erin’s is the former owner of her own successful dance studio, Odoriko Studio of Dance in Douglas, WY.  Getting back to her roots in Silver City, Erin returned and taught elementary Multi Cultural Folk Dance for the Silver Consolidated School District and coached the Silver High Dance Team. Erin has brought many years of experience, a wide range of dance styles and creativity, and also a vibrant enthusiasm and professionalism to our ballet and jazz programs!

Kim Frost, Cheerleading Instructor

Kim Frost oversees StarDancers Competition Cheer Program, Stars Cheer Extreme, as well as, our lead instructor for our dance/cheer/tumbling combo classes.  Kim is a native New Mexican from Albuquerque where she began her focus on cheerleading during her own high school years as a 5 A El Dorado 2-time state champion cheerleader! She went on to graduate from UNM with a Bachelors in Business Administration.  Kim brings a true enthusiasm to our program because of her long-time passion for what cheerleading can bring to our youth!  As Competition Cheer coach, Kim has attended camps and competitions all over the state.  Stars Cheer Extreme and Stars Pom/Dance Team have brought home many awards such as 1st place in the 08-09 Mayfield High School Cheer/Dance Invitational, 2nd place in the All-Star Division at the 08-09 Las Cruces Cheer/Dance Invitational. Stars Cheer Extreme also competes at the New Mexico Spirit Feast Competition, UCA Cheer in Albuquerque and took home 1st place in the 2010 NMSU Spirit Invitational!  Kim also took her younger group of kindergarten through 3rd grade, Stars Cheer, to compete where they were also awarded a 1st place trophy in the All-Star Rec A Division.  Kim  is currently the head coach for the Cobre High School cheerleaders and also gives back to our community by volunteering her time as the director of the Southwest Youth Football Cheerleading program.

      


      
Ryan Chavez, Hip Hop and Dance Team Instructor

Ryan Chavez instructs hip hop and pom/dance team.  Ryan started dancing at the age of 5. He is currently not only teaching classes but is still involved in taking jazz, ballet, and tap.  Ryan is very involved in dance workshops and conventions. Recently he attended Dupree Dance Workshop/Conference for Hip Hop, Phat Grooves Dance Workshop featuring Dave Scott and The Pulse Dance Workshop/Conference under the instruction of Brian Friedman, Mia Michaels, Tyce Diorio, Cris Judd, Wade Robson, Dave Scott, and Shane Sparks in Phoenix, AZ!   Ryan was a Semi-finalist in the Dance Category for the 08-09 New Mexico Youth Talent Search held in Albuquerque, NM and was invited to attend for 09-10.  On a local level, Ryan is involved with the Theater Group of New Mexico. He has had major roles in Joseph and the Technicolor Dream Coat, Fiddler on the Roof and Aladdin. Ryan choreographs for the Cliff High School Cheerleaders, is involved in choir, key club, track and basketball and has been named the Kiwanis Student of the Year!
